Alumni Band Day/Weekend 2010 – September 4-5, 2010

The Goin’ Band Association is pleased to announce Alumni Band Weekend 2010.

Alumni Band Day is set for Sunday September 5, 2010 in conjunction with the Texas Tech vs. SMU football game. This year’s special guests to be recognized will be all of our educator and band director alumni.
(Due to the special Sunday game day, this will allow more of our education alum to attend – many who normally have obligations on Friday nights.)

Schedule of activities –

Saturday (9/4) –
1pm – 3pm – Registration – TTU Music Building – Registration packets distributed, Music/Instrument Checkout
3pm – 5pm – Alumni Band Rehersal with Goin’ Band (Music & Marching)
7pm – Goin’ Band Alumni Cookout/Reception for family & friends of the Goin’ Band Association at Frazier Alumni Pavilion – SW of Jones Stadium – Special Recognition of Alumni who are Band Directors or TTU Educators! Meal – Fajita Buffet – $15/person – Deadline to register is August 29th for meal.

Sunday (9/5) – Alumni Band Day – Texas Tech vs. SMU
12pm – Alumni Gather at Music Building for final preparations for gameday
2:30 – Game Time

Start making your plans NOW to arrive early on Saturday afternoon.

Please keep in mind that you can participate in 1 or all events, each event is separate from the others, also, you do NOT have to march or play to participate in game day activities. You are welcome to join us only in the stands to play as well.

You MUST pre-register online or by phone BEFORE 8/29! Everyone must register due to expected high demand and for food head counts! This game will be sold out prior to this date, so additional tickets for our group will not be available.

There will be a late registration fee, if space is still available, after 8/30.

Registration Fees remain the same.
Non-Members – $25.
Foot ‘N Half Members – $5 Registration Fee with a current Foot ‘N Half Membership.
Drum Major Level Members and above are admitted free with a current Membership.

***Please remember each Alumni Member is limited to a strict additional 2 guest limit – additional Guests will need to purchase tickets from the Texas Tech Ticket Office.***

2010 Alumni Band Day Hotels

Mark your calendars NOW! Alumni Day 2010 has been officially set and will be Labor Day Weekend!

The SMU game has been moved to SUNDAY, September 5^th for TV at 2:30pm. So we will be marching on SUNDAY, not Saturday!

The 2^nd annual GBA Cookout/Reception will be held on Saturday night, Sept 4^th, at Frazier Alumni Pavilion. (Same set up as last year-($13-15/person). This is a great time to visit and catch up with old friends!)

Due to the special Saturday/Sunday arrangement this year – it will be a perfect opportunity for our band directors and other educator alums to attend! Our special recognition group this year will be those music educator alumni. Everyone is invited as always, this group will be the featured group – this is a special and unique opportunity for our directors and educators to travel to Lubbock on Saturday and join us for Alumni Band Weekend!

Please watch for the NEW GBA website for online registration that will begin soon! This will be the first game of the new Tuberville Era and many expect a sell out so please make your plans now and watch for registration to begin! Please remember EVERYONE must PRE-REGISTER! We have a limited number of seats and must provide a headcount for the cookout/reception.

GBA will also have a block of discounted hotel rooms in Lubbock for the weekend – watch for that announcement or contact GBA for details.

Dear Goin’ Band, Alumni and Friends,

I hope this finds you all well.  This letter is to inform you about a few changes next season for the Goin’ Band.   Texas Tech University has approved a one-year leave of absence for Christopher Anderson so that he may pursue doctoral graduate study in Instrumental Conducting at the University of Texas.   This is an exciting and unique opportunity for Mr. Anderson and one that will allow him to fulfill his own dreams regarding his education.  

First of all, you need to know that Goin’ Band will operate as usual and we are looking forward to ushering in the Tommy Tuberville era of Texas Tech football.  The shows are already done, music is being arranged, drum majors and leadership area already meeting and the band office is fielding the normal high volume of new student inquiries on a daily basis. 

In consultation with both Dr. Dye and Mr. Anderson, and Director Ballenger, we have made the following changes for next year in Goin’ Band during Mr. Anderson’s absence.   Dr. Keith Dye will serve as the Acting Director of Goin’ Band and be responsible, much as he has in the past, of many of the administrative and logistical operations of the band in addition to his teaching duties.  Additionally, we are very proud and pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Duane Hill to the band faculty at Texas Tech University for next season.  Mr. Hill is no stranger to Texas Tech or the Goin‘ Band, and his responsibilities will largely serve in a teaching capacity for day-to-day operations.  He will be working in close concert with Dr. Dye and Dr. Asbill as well as the graduate band staff to maximize our team-teaching efficiency.

All three of us are excited about next season and what lies ahead for Goin’ Band.  We are happy for Mr. Anderson and his ability to fulfill a dream, we are proud and excited to have Tech Alumnus Duane Hill join our band family in an official capacity, and we are appreciative of Dr. Dye’s willingness to take the reins for this year. 

Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Mr. Hill to our faculty next year, and send best wishes to Mr. Anderson as he starts a fresh phase of his academic life.

GBA has teamed up with Tom Thumb Grocery Stores and their Good Neighbor Donation Program.   When you shop at Tom Thumb stores, use your Good Neighbor card and Tom Thumb will donate a percentage of your purchase back to the Goin’ Band Association.

The DVD have arrived and we have shipped out all of the orders that have pre-ordered.   We are STILL accepting ORDERS for the  ’60 Year History of the Goin’ Band’ on DVD. There are 11 individual DVD’s in the Collection. The DVD will be be printed on both sides of a DVD disc to save space and to keep printing costs down. So you will receive a total of 6 DVD’s. DVD’s will include Goin’ Band Video covering the 60 years of history from 1947 – 2006.
